Defending Our (Toxic) Way of Life

I would like to address the segment from the Daily Show Video in which Bush speaks of defending a way of life that Obama says we will not apologize for.

Bush: We will work with our friends and allies across the world to defend our way of life.
Obama: We will not apologize for our way of life.

Our way of life is an insidious poison that enslaves, cripples and is destroying the planet. If the rest of the world takes issue with us, it is because of our sense of entitlement in continuing a way of life that brings harm and misery to their way of life.

Think about it:

We are engaged in illegal wars that kill innocent people, referring to civilian deaths as collateral damage. We use more resources than any other country in the world while millions lack access to food, shelter, clean water, and electricity. We consume and consume and consume more in an effort to feed our voracious, insatiable appetite for pseudo status and power. Who would want our ostentatious and superficial way of life? Only an empty fool.

To the rest of the world: I would like to apologize for our way of life.

  1. Wow, I couldn’t have said it better if i tried. Brilliant post. Completely right too.

I despise that the Bush years have inspired increased use of the word “freedom”. The disgustingly manipulative phrase “they hate our freedom” when referring to those who do not want the American way of life imposed on them.

    Great post!

  2. I too despise hearing (ad nauseum) the nonsense that ‘they hate our freedom’. You are right, it’s our american way of life that they do not want imposed upon them.

    I appreciate your comments!
