America’s Hegemony Threatens Future Survival

Noam Chomsky: Giving Up Hegemony for Lent

How should Americans, as a whole, consider the season of Lent? Using Noam Chomsky as a lens, it would be good to start with our misuse of the planet, our militarization of space, and ultimately our irrational commitment to global hegemony….all of which threaten our own survival and the future lives of our grandchildren.

Following in Bush’s Warring Footsteps

Obama’s ‘War on Terror’

The language is softened and deceptive. The strategy and tactics are not. The “war on terror” continues. Promised change is talk, not policy. Just look at Obama’s “war cabinet,” discussed in an earlier article. It assures:

— the “strongest military on the planet” by outspending all other countries combined;

— continued foreign wars;

— possible new ones in prospect; on February 7, vice-president Joe Biden outlined continuity of the Bush administration’s policy toward Iran, including “preventive” wars under the National Security Strategy; demands also that Iran abandon its legal nuclear program meaning nothing going forward will change;

— permanent occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan is planned;

— a reinvented “Cold War” with Russia; perhaps also with China; “draw(ing) a new ‘iron curtain’ (between these) formidable Eurasian powers” to prevent their alliance from challenging America, according to F. William Engdahl;

— an “absolute” commitment “to eliminating the threat of terrorism (with) the full force of our power;”

— inciting instability for imperial gain, especially in resource-rich parts of the world;

— militarizing America; keeping Bush administration police state laws in force; dealing with a deepening economic crisis by preparing for hard line crackdowns should popular unrest arise; and

— readying for another major false flag attack?

Three times in his final week in office, George Bush warned: “Our enemies are patient and determined to strike again. There’s still an enemy out there that would like to inflict damage on America – Americans. And that’ll be the major threat. The most important job (for) the next president is….to protect the American people from another attack.”

‘Shattered Union’ – Game of Future Reality?

Exploding vehicles, burning cities and forests, bombing Chicago, and laying siege to New York City. Sound like acts of terrorism? They’re actually part of the video game Shattered Union in which the players are encouraged to bomb and lay seige:

Shattered Union is rated ‘T’ for Violence. According to the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) titles rated T (Teen) have content that may be suitable for ages 13 and older. Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language.

Why is this game, one that promotes violence and terrorism, being marketed, especially to children as young as thirteen?

The XBox game was released in October 2005 but is a look into the near future or the now present, 2008. Issues of Militant Citizen Groups, Domestic Terrorism, Martial Law (specifically on the West Coast), and a Nuclear Weapon Attack during the 2012 presidential inauguration in which the President is assassinated, lay the groundwork for the game.

After the characterized assassination and nuclear attack, what follows in Shattered Union is a secession of the United States, into seven separate parts which erupts into a Second American Civil War.

Now, superimpose a Nov. 27, 2008 interview in which Russian Professor Igor Panarin said he thinks the United States will break into six separate parts:

Asked why he expected the U.S. to break up into separate parts, he said: “A whole range of reasons. Firstly, the financial problems in the U.S. will get worse. Millions of citizens there have lost their savings. Prices and unemployment are on the rise. General Motors and Ford are on the verge of collapse, and this means that whole cities will be left without work. Governors are already insistently demanding money from the federal center. Dissatisfaction is growing, and at the moment it is only being held back by the elections and the hope that Obama can work miracles. But by spring, it will be clear that there are no miracles.”

He also cited the “vulnerable political setup”, “lack of unified national laws”, and “divisions among the elite, which have become clear in these crisis conditions.”

He predicted that the U.S. will break up into six parts – the Pacific coast, with its growing Chinese population; the South, with its Hispanics; Texas, where independence movements are on the rise; the Atlantic coast, with its distinct and separate mentality; five of the poorer central states with their large Native American populations; and the northern states, where the influence from Canada is strong.

He even suggested that “we could claim Alaska – it was only granted on lease, after all.”

More on the Video Game Shattered Union

Shattered Union

Following a great increase in terrorism, internal strife, and ultimately, the nuclear destruction of Washington, D.C., the United States shatters into a half-dozen nation-states that descend into war. Take the helm of one of these newfound sovereignties (or the “peacekeeping” European Expeditionary Force) and struggle to reunify America…by any means necessary!

Features:

— Modern 3D tactical war game viewed from a “bird’s-eye” overhead camera.

— Non-linear mission progression with changes based on player-made decisions.

— Real-time resolution of turned-based moves. Take your time while you decide your move, but once you have selected your action, see the results all play out in full animation models, exploding vehicles, and burning cities and forests!

— Fully destructible terrain/environment. As the battle proceeds, everything from explosions and destroyed buildings permanently mark the terrain. Moving tanks will leave tread marks that stay for the duration of the mission. At the end, very little will look the same.

— Fight your way across the United States! Had enough of the windy city? Then go ahead and bomb Chicago! Invade across the Rockies into California, capture the tank factories in Ohio, and lay siege to New York City! You decide – the fate of the nation is in your hands!

— Choose to play as one of seven different factions: California Commonwealth, Pacifica, Republic of Texas, Great Plains Federation, The Confederacy, New England Alliance and the European Union.

— Call up National Guard forces equipped with M1 Abrams battle tanks, Apache helicopters and stealth bombers. Or make a deal with the Russians and equip your boys with MiG fighters and T-95 Heavy Tanks.

— Online and offline multiplayer on all platforms.
